Tungsten electrodes are used in TIG welding, a process that requires materials that are very resistant to high temperatures – tungsten reaches a melting temperature of approximately 3,400°C -.

Tungsten electrodes are divided into six categories depending on the alloy material: red 2% thorium electrode, for DC and AC welding; pure tungsten electrode – green colour – for AC welding; grey 2% cerium electrode, for AC and DC work; gold lanthanum electrode WL15, ideal for DC and AC applications for steel, aluminium, nickel and titanium; black 1% lanthanum electrode, very similar to cerium electrodes; and turquoise electrode WS2, perfect for automated welding.
